How many cleanings and exams do I need per year?

It is generally recommended to schedule routine cleanings and exams twice per year, or every six months. This routine allows our team to monitor your oral health closely, catch any potential issues early, and provide necessary preventive care. However, individual needs may vary based on each patient’s specific oral health situation. We will let you know if we believe more frequent visits would be beneficial for you or your child.

Will teeth cleanings whiten my teeth?

Because routine cleanings remove plaque, tartar, and stains, they can make your smile appear slightly whiter. However, they are not designed to significantly brighten teeth the way that professional teeth whitening treatments can. If you are interested in brightening your smile, ask our team about our professional teeth whitening services, and we can get your next treatment scheduled for you.

What’s the difference between a deep cleaning and a routine cleaning?

A routine cleaning is a standard cleaning procedure. It involves scaling (removing plaque and tartar) and polishing the teeth to maintain optimal oral health. A deep cleaning, on the other hand, is known as scaling and root planing. This is typically recommended when there is evidence of gum disease and involves a more thorough cleaning of the teeth, including below the gumline. We can help determine which option is right for your smile.

Are routine cleanings and exams covered by insurance?

In most cases, dental insurance plans cover routine cleanings and exams as part of their preventive care benefits. However, coverage details can vary depending on your specific plan. Our office staff is experienced in navigating insurance matters and will be happy to assist in verifying your coverage and maximizing your benefits. We are also proud to accept CareCredit™, LendingPoint™, and Alphaeon® Credit.
